I've loved romance novels since...like forever. I read across most subgenres of romance. I also write fantasy/paranormal and new adult romance.
I got this as a freebie from Amazon a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. It's a YA novella from Julia Barrett. I've read contemporary romances of hers (and loved them!) but this was my first YA of hers. It absolutely sucked me in.
It's suspenseful, it's gritty, the characters are smart and brave, and the end hits you hard in the feels. After you finish it, there's a little epilogue on her website. Catch your breath and then go read it.
I read the story without knowing anything about it--aside from who the author is and the genre--and that was a change for me. But I liked not knowing what I was getting into.
Disclosure: Julia and I are twitter-buddies, but this review is my opinion only.
Now go read it and be proud to read some well-written YA. :)
