Linz Loves Romance

I've loved romance novels since...like forever. I read across most subgenres of romance. I also write fantasy/paranormal and new adult romance.

Hot as Hades Review

Hot as Hades - Alisha Rai

Hot in Hades is about the Greek gods Hades and Persephone. They are mysteriously thrown together, fiercely attracted to each other, and enjoy smexytimes while Hades teaches Persephone how to control her powers.

This was my first book by Alisha Rai. She has a strong voice, which I really liked. I also love the idea of a sexy take on a Greek myth (*cough, that blessedly changed familial ties to avoid the squicky). It was super sexy, a bit of insta-lust, followed quickly by insta-love. Sometimes that works for me, sometimes it doesn't. Here, it was okay. The paranormal elements were also different than what I've read a lot of, so that was nice.

However, I wanted to love it more than I did. Some things didn't work as well for me. For instance, Hades and Persephone speak in modern slang. There were times it was funny and times that it felt overdone. Some of the descriptions also seemed a little over-written. There also wasn't much in the way of character development.

So, if you're looking for a little snarky, sexy paranormal amuse bouche, this is totally it. I think I was expecting a little more given the length.
